- Q: The game laggs so much after I start recording. How can I make it smoother?
A: Your question is quite complex. First of all, ZD Soft Game Recorder generates the smallest impact on game relative to other in-game video recording software on the market. But it is impossible to record real-time game video without any impact on game. General speaking, the faster your PC is, the smaller impact it generates. And it also depends on certain games, the more complex the game is, the bigger impact it generates, because the computing capacity of your PC is finite. In order to get smooth recording experience, you have to ensure your PC meets the recommended system requirements. For some big games, you may need a more powerful PC to do that job. A Dual-Core CPU and a good 3D graphics card could be greatly helpful. If you don't want to upgrade any hardware, there are also some ways to help you get smoother recording experience than before:
1. Set to record in half size or custom a recording size that is small enough. It is the most effective way.
2. Set a lower recording FPS. The lower the recording FPS is, the higher the game FPS is. It is another effective way.
3. Decrease the game's resolution. 800x600 could be a good resolution for recording game videos.
4. Turn off other CPU-eating programs loaded in the background.
- Q: I recorded a game movie but there is no sound. Why?
A: It seems that you didn't setup the audio input source correctly. Please click the tab named "Audio" in the main window. You will see the audio options page. Please ensure the "Record audio along with video" option is selected. Then select a correct audio device and audio input source. Note: It is very important to select a correct audio input source. You will see a long list of audio input sources if you click on the "Audio Input" combo box. Please find and select an item which contains the word "Mix", such as "Mono Mix" or "Stereo Mix". If you can not find any item which contains the word "Mix", you'd better try to record videos with each item one by one in order to find the one for system wide audio recording. You may also have to click the "Advanced Settings" button to adjust the volume of the audio input source you've selected.
- Q: I don't like the beep sound when I start or stop a recording. How to disable it?
A: You can disable it by unchecking the "Beep on starting or stopping an operation" option in the "Options" page of the main window.
- Q: I don't like to see the FPS number when I'm playing games. How to hide it?
A: You can hide it by pressing the hotkey F11, and press it again to restore FPS displaying. You can change that hotkey to another one in the "Options" page of the main window. You can also set the FPS displaying position there.
- Q: What video codec does the program use?
A: ZD Soft Game Recorder encodes video using MS-MPEG4 V2 by default. It also supports MS-MPEG4 V3, DIVX, MJPEG, LJPEG, Huffyuv, I420 and DIB video formats.
- Q: What audio codec does the program use?
A: ZD Soft Game Recorder encodes audio using MP3.
- Q: Does the program support external VFW codecs?
A: No, ZD Soft Game Recorder doesn't support external VFW codecs because of some performance consideration.
- Q: I recorded a game movie but I can't play it in Windows Media Player. How can I get it to play?
A: You have to install the correct video codec for the video file you've recorded. If you don't know what codec you should install, I recommend you install FFDShow. It is a free codec approved to be able to decode all the video formats that ZD Soft Game Recorder supports.
- Q: How to edit the game movie I just recorded?
A: You have to use 3rd party video editing tools to do that job. Here are some:
Windows Movie Maker (comes free with Windows XP)
VirtualDub (free)
Adobe Premiere
